It’s World Breastfeeding Week!
First Born supports all families with their breastfeeding goals; whatever those are. Maybe the goal is breastfeeding for the first day, maybe it’s breastfeeding until 2 years of age and beyond. Whatever your goal or circumstance, First Born is here to support you.
With that said, let’s examine the top reasons for breastfeeding your newborn baby.
- Healthier baby – studies show that babies who breastfeed have less doctors’ visits. Colostrum specifically contains immunoglobulins which help protect the baby from disease.
- Saves Money – breast milk is free! It’s food on demand and as needed when baby is hungry.
- Easily digested – breastmilk is made specifically for your baby, by your body, and is digested easily and quickly by your baby’s digestive system.
Most benefits of breastfeeding center around health for mom and baby. Breastfeeding protects against diarrhea, vomiting, ear infections, and various illness due to immunities passing from mom to baby.
However, First Born also fully recognizes the importance of multiple feeding methods and supporting what is best for the family, whether that is breastfeeding, formula feeding, or some combination thereof.
It is extremely important to recognize factors, such as difficulty initiating and sustaining breastfeeding, an immediate need to return to work, postpartum depression, pain, needing sleep, or whatever life’s circumstances are as valid and real reasons to choose to formula feed over breastfeeding.
First Born will support all goals of the family regarding feeding choices.
